Use solvent-based degreasers (e.g., acetone/IPA) with ultrasonic cleaning to remove machining residues; avoid abrasive tools that may damage the Co binder. Immediately dry tungsten carbide components with compressed air (≤0.8MPa) to prevent moisture-induced cobalt leaching from WC grains.

Use 10x magnification to check for micro-chipping, cracks, or binder phase corrosion in the tungsten carbide tools—critical in high-wear areas like cutting edges or sealing surfaces. Measure dimensional tolerance (±0.02mm) with CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) for critical wear parts like dies/guidelines to ensure spec compliance.

Specify physical vapor deposition (PVD) coatings like TiAlN or AlCrN (3-5μm thickness) for high-temperature applications above 800°C to prevent oxidation and diffusion wear. For acidic/alkaline environments, demand chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond coatings or electroless nickel-plating (50-100μm) with porosity testing (ferroxyl test ≤3 pores/cm²) to guarantee corrosion resistance.

Store cemented carbide products in dry environments (<40% RH) with anti-rust desiccant, and avoid direct contact with ferrous metals to prevent galvanic corrosion on cemented carbide or tungsten steel surfaces. Use shock-absorbent packaging (e.g., foam-lined boxes) for precision-ground edges, and segregate by hardness grades (e.g., K10/K20) to avoid edge chipping during handling.

Use appropriate lubricants during operation to reduce friction and wear on moving tungsten carbide parts. For high-load applications, use extreme pressure (EP) greases with MoS₂ or WS₂ additives (NLGI Grade 2) to minimize adhesive wear on carbide tooling during metalworking operations.
